All That Remains Short Film Analysis

This short film is

In this scene we get a feel for the surroundings of the short film by the use of an establishing shot. We see that all of the grass seems to be dying and everything is very secluded and isolated from any form of society. This gives us a real post apocalyptic feel to the film which is what i plan to do when making my short film.
In this scene we see a group of antagonists holding what seems to be a normal guy hostage and threatening him with a large machete that we later see in this scene, it makes us worry about what is going to happen to him. The antagonists are dressed up with masks and the standard gear you see in most films that are post apocalyptic, the kind of rugged clothing and helmets.
In this scene we see the civilian that they're keeping hostage get stabbed in the stomach and killed by a large machete. Special effects are used during this scene to show blood coming out of the civilian when he is stabbed and also to show the blood that is on his machete.
In this scene we see another establishing shot where we see what seems to be a beached boat in the middle of nowhere, This isn't somewhere i would actually film mine as i feel it needs more of a "Civilian evacuated village/town/city feel" rather than an already isolated grassland patch.

In this scene we see the antagonists taking items from another random person who we assume is a protagonist as he hasn't really got anything that he can protect himself with showing that he probably can't hurt anyone. A three shot is used hear to show how the protagonist is outnumbered 2:1. Also a long shot is used to show this again.
In this scene we see the other protagonist getting mugged and beaten but all of sudden through the use of a long shot we see the protagonist appear on top of the hill to come and save the person being mugged. The low angle shot shows that the protagonist is at an advantage and is most likely going to win the fight.
In this scene we see the tables turn and the protagonists are taking items from the antagonists. A three shot is used to show how its gone from the protagonist being outnumbered to the antagonist now being out numbered. A long shot helps show this too as we can see all the characters in the shot.
In this scene we get a close up of the kind of equipment that is used in this short film, the close up of this weapon. This close up adds to the realism of the film and allows me to take inspiration for my own film that realistic looking guns makes the film look a lot more professional.
In this scene we see an establishing shot that shows the surroundings of the scene again, you can also see the protagonist walking through the terrain in the scene, He is seen as a small dot and this shows that the landscape is huge and daunting compared to him.

Relic Short Film Analysis

Relic is a short post apocalyptic thriller set in the near future. Scott is a 15 year old boy who has lost his family in the disaster and has to adapt and fight in order to survive.

In this scene it fades onto who we presume is the protagonist in this short film, it starts with a mid shot of him getting out of bed, we can already tell that this is going to be the main protagonist as the main focus is instantly set on him.
In this scene we get a long shot of the almost prison like room that he has awoken inside, the mise en scene of this shot really sets the scene for the genre of film as it looks very doom and gloom, we also get a feel that the surroundings are derelict and have a post apocalyptic feel.
In this scene we see an over the shoulder shot of the protagonist looking at an old picture of him and his family back when the world was normal and hadn't been pretty much destroyed. this scene gives the whole film a sense that humanity is still savable and isn't completely destroyed because although the world is pretty much gone, people still have emotions and miss their families.
In this scene, we get a close up on the protagonists face to show his reaction to the surroundings and the atmosphere that he has entered and had to live in for a long time now. He is alone and we get this from the surroundings that the short film is set in, the close up on his face shows the emotion that has left his body for good and the damage that the post apocalyptic setting has done to him.
In this scene we get a long shot that shows the surroundings that this character (the protagonist) is surviving in, it really shows how alone he is because of how he looks so small compared to everything else in this shot, Just like most of humanity everything is destroyed and damaged.
In this scene we see the protagonist looking desperately at cans of food and this shows us the horrors of the post apocalyptic world because he is obviously very hungry so to survive he must find these scraps of food, it makes us feel for the character because we couldn't imagine being in his shoes.
In this scene we see a chase between the antagonist and the protagonist, throughout the whole scene the camera is shaky as if someone is holding a handheld camera. It is an action scene that i would like to recreate in my short film, Throughout the whole action scene there is a lot of parkour chasing and people jumping things.
In this scene we see the antagonist cornering the protagonist, we see the protagonists fear through the use of an over the shoulder shot. It shows that in the post apocalyptic setting that everyone no matter what is alone and against each other which is what i want to provide in my short film.
In this scene we get another close up on the protagonists face after confronting the antagonist, we see that the fear has really left his eyes and his face remains emotionless. It shows that in the post apocalyptic setting everyone has no emotion whatsoever anymore. The dirty look to his face also shows that he has been surviving in this setting for a long time.

Elegy Short Film Analysis

In this short film it follows one character very closely, he looks very sadistic but it turns out that he has a rose that he needs to deliver to a certain place which could potentially be the cure. Although you can see no emotion on his face mid shots are used to show his body language.

In the first shot there is a black screen and we see informative text that explains very briefly exactly what has happened to humanity and why it has taken a turn for the worst. No music or sound is used throughout this shot to add a sense of nothingness and that there is no hope

Here we see a pan of several newspapers that show the devastation that has been caused by nature in this case. It states the amount of people affected to amplify the effect of the world coming to devastation

In this shot we see a close up of his calendar that he has made and it shows that it has potentially been 25 years since the devastation happened. This gives us a sense of no cure because it has been such a long time since the first breakout.

Low key lighting is used at the beginning of the film when we see the character without his mask and this is used to add mystery to the character as he is not revealed until the final scene. This is why throughout the film we are put under the impression that this guy is a thug that just kills people with the only purpose of surviving

In this scene we see the main character in the post apocalyptic wasteland walking past broken glass, the camera is positioned in the broken glass to show the devastation and how humanity is broken and shattered, they use a pan to show the character trudging through the wasteland, we see him alone and almost helpless wearing his gas mask which is portrayed as his safety blanket almost, it's the thing keeping him alive and is his trademark look.

In this scene we can see a large object laying next to what we presume is his base, the size of the object is used as an effect to show the devastation that nature has caused, even something as big as that has fallen to the hands of nature. The long shot used shows the contrast between man and nature as we can see the wide open plane that is pretty intimidating and the huge object that has fallen, then you see the character in the midst of it all.

In this scene we see the protagonist looking at the two people who seem to have just murdered a man sitting on a wall. They use an over the shoulder shot to show that the protagonist is looking at them, The body on the floor seems to have his head missing so the brutality is portrayed through this.
In this scene we see effects to display gore on the antagonist after being hit with a baseball bat, the brutality is portrayed through the use of a close up on her face to show the flesh that is wounded from the hit. We then see the other antagonist crawl on top of her and show some form of emotion which again shows that humanity isn't lost and can still be fixed.
In this scene, we can't see anything but the protagonist swinging his baseball bat and the use of diegetic sounds, this allows us to feel the effects of what is happening without actually seeing the person getting brutally beaten with a baseball bat, they also use a mid shot to show the protagonist swinging his baseball bat viciously and they also use a wall so we can't see the man actually getting beaten.
In this scene, we see a group shot of antagonists wielding weapons whilst watching the protagonist approach them, from this we can see that the intent of this group is to murder the protagonist, we get this very sinister vibe from the group that seems to be a mixture of different races/professions.

In this scene, we see a group fight action scene between the protagonist and the group of antagonists, we have a long shot of all of the characters fighting each other with multiple weapons, we actually see the protagonist getting hit and injured which goes against the convention of most films where the protagonist seems to be invincible and untouchable. In the end we see the protagonist win but he does get stabbed in the stomach by a machete.
In this scene we see the camera pan around the protagonist after the fight scene where he starts feel the effects of being stabbed, this pan gives us a feeling of chaos and pain. he hunches over and grabs his stomach to try and ease the pain, blood is seen staining his clothes too.
In this scene we see the protagonist reveal himself after putting down what seems to be the cure for humanity as it appears to kill off the infected and clears the air because he takes off his gas mask. This is wear we see the antagonists drop dead because they were infected and now the cure has killed them. we see the protagonist drop dead too because of his wounds and then the short film comes to an end.
