Relic is a short post apocalyptic thriller set in the near future. Scott is a 15 year old boy who has lost his family in the disaster and has to adapt and fight in order to survive.
In this scene it fades onto who we presume is the protagonist in this short film, it starts with a mid shot of him getting out of bed, we can already tell that this is going to be the main protagonist as the main focus is instantly set on him.
In this scene we get a long shot of the almost prison like room that he has awoken inside, the mise en scene of this shot really sets the scene for the genre of film as it looks very doom and gloom, we also get a feel that the surroundings are derelict and have a post apocalyptic feel.
In this scene we see an over the shoulder shot of the protagonist looking at an old picture of him and his family back when the world was normal and hadn't been pretty much destroyed. this scene gives the whole film a sense that humanity is still savable and isn't completely destroyed because although the world is pretty much gone, people still have emotions and miss their families.
In this scene, we get a close up on the protagonists face to show his reaction to the surroundings and the atmosphere that he has entered and had to live in for a long time now. He is alone and we get this from the surroundings that the short film is set in, the close up on his face shows the emotion that has left his body for good and the damage that the post apocalyptic setting has done to him.
In this scene we get a long shot that shows the surroundings that this character (the protagonist) is surviving in, it really shows how alone he is because of how he looks so small compared to everything else in this shot, Just like most of humanity everything is destroyed and damaged.
In this scene we see the protagonist looking desperately at cans of food and this shows us the horrors of the post apocalyptic world because he is obviously very hungry so to survive he must find these scraps of food, it makes us feel for the character because we couldn't imagine being in his shoes.
In this scene we see a chase between the antagonist and the protagonist, throughout the whole scene the camera is shaky as if someone is holding a handheld camera. It is an action scene that i would like to recreate in my short film, Throughout the whole action scene there is a lot of parkour chasing and people jumping things.
In this scene we see the antagonist cornering the protagonist, we see the protagonists fear through the use of an over the shoulder shot. It shows that in the post apocalyptic setting that everyone no matter what is alone and against each other which is what i want to provide in my short film.
In this scene we get another close up on the protagonists face after confronting the antagonist, we see that the fear has really left his eyes and his face remains emotionless. It shows that in the post apocalyptic setting everyone has no emotion whatsoever anymore. The dirty look to his face also shows that he has been surviving in this setting for a long time.
